The multi-disciplinary NUS team won a grant of $2m to carry out R&D on rapid detection of the waterbourne parasite Crytosporidium spp in drinking water worldwide.

- Professor Ng Kim Choon awarded the IES Prestigious Engineering Achievement Awards 2009 new!
Professor Ng Kim Choon and his team of researchers have developed an energy efficient adsorption desalination cum cooling (ADC) cycle that consumes only a specific energy of 1.38 kWh/m3 – about twice that of the thermodynamic limit for desalination. The research team has received the IES Prestigious Engineering Achievement Awards 2009 in recognition to outstanding engineering achievements.
- Asst Prof Lee Poh Seng wins Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors’ Award
A US provisional patent has been filed for Assistant Professor Lee Poh Seng’s invention, a “heat sink” which effectively takes the heat off electronics. His solution for thermal management won a Silver Award in the Defence Science Section at the Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors’Award ceremony held at the Science Centre on 23 May 2009.
