The Fluids Group is among the larger academic groups in the Mechanical Engineering Department. The staff members are responsible for the teaching of all undergraduate and graduate modules related to fluids dynamics and fluid engineering. They also participate in the teaching and tutorials for other modules in the engineering curriculum.
The faculty members are actively involved in research extending over a broad area including:
The research methodology be computational or experimental or a combination of the two. The bulk of experimental research is carried out in the Fluids Mechanics Laboratory. Faculty members and their researchers and students also have access to the tri-sonic National Wind Tunnel facilities on the NUS campus for transonic and supersonic flow research. Research is supported by grants from the University, Ministry of Education, government grant agencies and industry. AIRBUS, the leading commercial aircraft manufacturer in the world, recently awarded a $1.5M grant to members of the group, led by Professor YT Chew, to investigate flow drag reduction through surface modifications.
