We are actively involved in the areas of processing and characterization of conventional, biomedical and futuristic materials for a wide spectrum of engineering applications. We work closely with industry by providing consultancy and training options.
We are currently pursuing innovative processing techniques such as disintegrated melt deposition, microwave processing, crystal growth, bi-axial stretching of resorbable biomembrane, 3d scaffolds for bone tissue engineering and pulsed laser deposition along with other more conventional techniques.
These processes are applied to a range of target materials including biomaterials, energy storage materials, piezoelectric single crystals, ferroelectric and multiferroic materials, thin films and multilayer structures, tribological films, lead free solders and light weight materials such as those based on aluminum and magnesium. Our particular emphasis is on developing new materials with enhanced properties.
Characterization studies that are carried out in our laboratories relate to nanoindentation, mechanical properties at micro- to nano-scales, tensile, compressive and shear properties, electrical and electro-mechanical properties, tribological properties and microstructural and phase transformations. In addition, our laboratories are equipped with state-of-art electron microscopes, micro-CT X-ray, as well as a range of equipment capable of characterizing thermal properties, wettability, surface mechanical properties and many others.
