NUS () and EADS in R&T Partnership

NUS and Airbus (an EADS Division) embarked on a three-year research project focused on the fundamental study of flow control for reducing the drag of streamlined bodies on January 2008. If a few percentage points reduction in drag is achieved, it could translate into millions of dollars in savings in the long term, said Professor Chew Yong Tian, currently Head of NUS' Department of Mechanical Engineering and also head of the research team.

The NUS-EADS internship programme was also set up. This internship programme will see six NUS students doing a three-month internship at one of the EADS research centres in Europe over the next three years.

On 18 February 2008, EADS met up with NUS officials to formally seal a collaborative partnership. The representatives from EADS were then invited to a tour showcasing various NUS facilities and research projects. On the same day, a scholarship program sponsored by EADS was announced to students with interest to pursue a career in an aeronautical engineering field.
