A research
collaboration between Department of Mechanical Engineering, Boeing
and Stanford University aims to address critical issues in new-generation
composite airframes such as durability, damage progression modeling,
and cost and weight reduction. The principal investigator, Assoc Prof
TE Tay, has developed a novel progressive damage modeling methodology
for the analysis of light-weight composite aircraft structures. The
collaboration has produced the first joint NUS-Boeing article in a
top composite materials journal.
