The above table is a guide for reference only. Universities that are not listed will be reviewed accordingly.

  • For students embarking SEP before AY2017/18 Semester 1, to follow the contact hours criteria as follows:
    • For EU universities, 6 ECTS = 4 MCs
    • For other universities, contact hours will be calculated as follows:-
      • Lecture Hours x No of Weeks = Lecture contact hours per semester
      • Tutorial Hours x No of Weeks x 0.66 = Tutorial contact hours per semester
      • Lab/Others Hours x No of Weeks x 0.33 = Lab contact hours per semester

A typical 4MCs NUS module (ME3112) example shown below:

Lecture = 3 x 13 = 39 hours

Tutorial = 0.5 x 13 x 0.66 = 4 hours

Lab = 0.5 x 13 x 0.33 = 2 hours

Total = 39 + 4 + 2 = 45 hours

* Please note that self-study is not to be included in the calculation of contact hours.

  • ME Dept allows student to map a 35 contact hours PU module to a 4 MCs NUS module.

Compensation of Contact Hours or Credits

In the event that student submits a module mapping but does not meet the minimum contact hours (for students going SEP before AY2017/18) or credit requirements (for students going SEP from AY2017/18 onwards), student will have to compensate for the shortfall.

How the compensation works?

  1. Student can take an additional PU module to compensate for the shortfall
  2. Student can use other modules with over flow of credits or contact hours to compensate

However, please note that compensation is only for ME to ME modules. Students are not allowed to use UEM or other faculty modules to compensate for the shortfall.
