The NUS UAV team once again participated in the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA)’s Design-Build-Fly Competition held from 20-23 April 2017 at Tucson, Arizona, and managed to beat last year’s 32nd placing, jumping ahead 3 places to achieve a 29th placing worldwide (out of 95 teams).

Said Dr Lua Kim Boon, the team’s supervisor, “The team solved many challenges during the competition, including having to repair the UAV after it crash landed due to strong winds and its wing snapped into two. In spite of that, the team successfully completed the ground mission and all the flying missions this year, ranking 29th worldwide.”

This was despite having to juggle working on the UAV project and studying for their final exams, which started upon their return from the competition. So kudos, guys!
